Chillennium Game Jam

Chillennium is the largest student-run game jam in the world, organized by students, for students. Hosted annually by the Department of Visualization, Chillennium is founded, staffed, and organized by students of Texas A&M University. This unique event brings participants from around the globe to meet fellow game enthusiasts, develop their skills, and compete for prizes.

The Beginning

In Fall of 2014, Andre Thomas announced to his class that he'd like to create a game jam and anyone interested should meet with him. A few motivated students met with him and within only a few weeks the first game jam was hosted at Texas A&M University. Little did they know, they would soon be creating the worlds largest student directed game jam in the world, The Chillennium Game Jam.
Creating the worlds largest student game jam did not come without struggle. At first, we were learning what was needed to make it function, what resources were required, who would be attending, and where would we find facilities and sponsorship? Each year we learned valuable skills that we would take with us into the following year.

Few Weeks

With limited time the team was able to pull together a quick game jam within the LIVE Lab research facilites.

Local Food Donations

Local companies around town donated food and drinks to the event.

Kansas State

Kansas State was our very first participants that were outside of the University.

Breaking 200

After 2 prior years learning how to make an efficient game jam run the next goal was to dramatically increase participation and make ourselves known. In 2016, Chillennium was hosted for it's second year. Efforts were put into participant outreach by creating relationships with schools and students organizations across the nation. Lo and behold, it worked!

Creating The Foundation

The directors knew that moving forward would take a lot of dedication and effort from students. Without any guidance or documentation those who follow in our footsteps would have to reinvent the wheel we had perfected over the past 3 years. The four directors got together and devised a plan on how the hierarchy of the organization would run.
